District Governor on COVID-19 Virus

Good day Optimists.  Understanding the concerns regarding the Coronavirus, our team is currently working with Optimist International and our state government on a path forward for current and future events, however as for now we all need to place precautionary and preventative measures in place for our scholarship contests. I am also attaching the email from Optimist International.   Stay tuned as more information becomes available.

Thank you so much for your patience

Oratorical Contests and COVID-19

Hello Optimist District Governors,

Hope you are doing well and your District is on track for a great year.  As we hear of daily closing and rulings on events and meetings due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak, we sincerely hope the virus does not affect your 3rd Quarter Conference.

Please know that rules do allow for some modifications to Oratorical competitions. Per Oratorical rules, “if necessary” you may choose to allow contestants to compete via online streaming. If your District needs to cancel or reschedule the 3rd Quarter Conference, Optimist International will be flexible with the May 15 deadline to submit District winners.

Optimist Day is February 1st!

Optimist Day – February 1, 2018

Members of Optimist International will celebrate Optimist Day throughout the world the first Thursday of February (2/1/2018) to promote our efforts in bringing out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves.

On Optimist Day, Optimists around the world are asked to wear Optimist attire – shirts, pins, hats, etc.

Optimists in the GATEway district (Georgia and Tennessee) are urged to participate in the Child ID Kit program on February 1.  A supply of ID Kits is purchased by individual clubs, and Optimists distribute these publicly to local parents.  Ask your club president if your local club is participating.

Club presidents,  we urge you to contact your local mayor, etc. to proclaim our Optimist Day.  See Optimist Day Proclamation.
