Jamming in Temple

Jamming in Temple

The Optimist Club of Temple in partnership with the Temple Recreation Department hosted “JAM in the Park” on Saturday August 19 from 10:00-1:00.

We recognized that students and families were struggling with the lasting impact of life-altering post-pandemic changes. The struggles were evident in our community schools, homes, recreation and relationships. As a result, the Optimist Club applied for and received a $1000.00 matching grant in the area of Childhood Health and Wellness from the Optimist International Foundation.

“JAM” is an acronym we believed would change lives by taking just a minute to breathe, listen, think, understand, rest and be.This community event was an opportunity to unite and join with local resource agencies to find help for physical, mental, emotional or financial struggles. Kids of all ages enjoyed physical activities, such as a trike-a-thon, obstacle course, cycle for smoothies, rock and face painting, interaction with public safety, making healthy snacks, etc. Parents visited resource tables such as FERST Readers, PASS(Partners Advancing Student Success), FCA(Fellowship of Christian Athletes), Sheriff’s Department, Optimist Club(fingerprinting children), Mental Health Advocates, etc.

We would like to thank the students, parents, resource representatives and all volunteers for making this “JAM in the Park” a success for the community of Temple.
