Forsyth-Cumming Club Defeat Cancer Campaign

The Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club is helping to support young cancer patients along with IHOP on Market Place Blvd and the Justin Adams Farmer’s Ins. Agency in Cumming.

Through the Month of April, starting April 2nd a Defeat Cancer Campaign is going to be held at IHOP located at 920 Market Place Blvd in Cumming.  The Forsyth-Cumming Optimists and IHOP are inviting all our friends in Forsyth County and adjoining areas to go to IHOP make a $1 pledge or more and sign a pledge card that will be displayed in the restaurant to show that you are in the fight to Defeat Childhood Cancer.

Cancer is the number one disease killing children today, taking more lives than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and AIDS combined.  Each year about 10,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer in North America alone, 3,000 of who will die as a result.  Optimist International established the Childhood Cancer Campaign in the hopes of bringing greater service to affected families, help to fund research and supporting projects at the local community level.

The Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club has been supporting young cancer patients and their families in the community for 10 years through local service projects and the Optimist International Childhood Cancer Campaign since 2005.

Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with more than 70,000 adult and youth members in 2,600 clubs in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, and throughout the world.  The organization’s Childhood Cancer Campaign became one of its main focuses in 2001 partnering with Johns Hopkins University to move forward research for the disease.  Carrying out the motto “Bringing Out the Best in Youth, Community and Ourselves,” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year.  Your Forsyth-Cumming Club is a Partner in Education with the Forsyth County Schools, co-sponsors the largest Oratory Contest in the United States with the Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Club, co-sponsors a yearly Track and Field Event for elementary age children with the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department, has an Honor Student of the Month program, donates funds to various organization for youth led projects, provides thousands of dollars in college scholarships raised by our Avenue of Flags fund raiser campaign and sponsors a Rising Star Award for students rising to middle school and high school.  To learn more about the Forsyth-Cumming Optimist Club please visit our site FCoptimists.org.
